Our Ships

Van der Rest Sail Charter have two ships, a third one is at the planning stage. The Loth Loriën and the J. R. Tolkien sail under a Dutch flag, like their owner and captain Jaap van der Rest. Amsterdam is the homeport of the two sister ships. But you'll find them, unless they are away at sea, in Kiel harbour, the basis of Van der Rest Sail Charter.

We are no charter agency. With Van der Rest you sail on our own ships. This way we can make sure that you will get what we have promised. We know what we can do and we know our ships.

J.R. Tolkien is the faster of the two sailing sisters. Apart from the charter cruises in the Baltic Sea, she takes part in impressive yacht parades as well as in one or two regattas. And she is well suited for the longer voyages from the Van der Rest Sail Charter programme.

Loth Loriën is the robust veteran for charter cruises on the Baltic Sea. Conveniently equipped like her sister, she excels with a Jacuzzi on deck. She spent the winter season 2001/2002 in the shipyard for reconstruction works. The two-masted lugger turned into a three-master with gaff-topsails.
